  • School Council

At Ingatestone and Fryerning C of E Junior School, we believe that every child should have a voice and play an active role in shaping our school community. Through learning about democracy, children experience the importance of representation, responsibility and making their views heard.

Each year, School Councillors are elected by their classmates. Candidates prepare and deliver speeches explaining why they would be a good representative, before pupils cast their votes and elect their class councillors (two per class).

Our School Council meets regularly to discuss ideas and suggestions from across the school. Councillors help to champion pupil voice and work collaboratively to improve school life. They contribute ideas for enhancing our school environment, organise and support fundraising events, and help to make decisions that benefit the wider school community.

School Councillors also take on important leadership responsibilities, including helping to interview prospective staff members and sharing their views as part of the recruitment process. This gives pupils a genuine opportunity to influence school development and demonstrates how their opinions are valued.

Through their work, the School Council helps to foster a culture of participation, leadership and respect, ensuring that children play an important part in making our school the very best it can be.
