At Ingatestone and Fryerning Church of England Junior School (IFJS), every child matters.

We strive to provide an inspiring, challenging and engaging environment that nurtures curiosity and enables creative and imaginative thinking to thrive.

Founded by the Church in 1817, the school moved to its current site in 1963. Originally serving both infant and junior pupils, growing demand led to the opening of a separate infant school on Fryerning Lane in 1970. Today, IFJS educates children aged 7 to 11. The school benefits from spacious classrooms, a well-equipped hall and library, and excellent outdoor facilities, including playgrounds, fields, play equipment, and a purpose-designed outdoor learning space with reflection and wildlife areas.

Our staff, governors and families value working closely together to support each child’s learning and development. We share parents’ commitment to their children’s education and wellbeing, and we are proud of our nurturing, positive and industrious school community.

While we uphold high academic expectations, we also place equal importance on creative, physical, emotional and social development, ensuring a truly balanced education. This website offers only a snapshot of the opportunities we provide. Although it outlines our curriculum, values and achievements, the atmosphere and ethos of IFJS are best experienced in person. We encourage families to visit during the school day to see our learning environment in action. Strong relationships between pupils, staff, parents, governors and the wider Ingatestone and Fryerning community underpin everything we do. We see parents as children’s first educators and welcome the chance to work together to develop confident, ambitious, inquisitive and resilient learners.
