We believe that PE plays an important role in developing healthy, confident and resilient children. Through well-planned, exciting lessons, pupils develop their skills, knowledge and understanding across a wide range of sports and physical activities. We provide opportunities for children of all abilities to participate, develop their talents and discover activities they enjoy. We are lucky to have a dedicated and passionate sports coach teaching some of our lessons both in Upper and Lower School each week.

Our sporting opportunities extend beyond the curriculum, with a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, including fencing, dance and basketball. We also encourage children to experience the excitement of competitive sport. Our pupils regularly compete against other schools in the local area, taking part in competitions organised through the Shenfield School Sports Partnership and Brentwood District Sports. We also reach out to other schools to take part in 'friendly' matches.

Within school, our Upper School pupils take part in inter-house competitions, with opportunities to compete in football, netball, rounders and cross country. These events help to build teamwork, resilience and a sense of community, while giving children the opportunity to represent their houses with pride.

We aim to inspire children through the achievements and experiences of others. Past pupils and other athletes are invited to speak in assemblies, sharing their sporting journeys and encouraging our pupils to believe in what they can achieve. Displays, assemblies and other activities also help children to develop an interest in and understanding of national sporting events.

Above all, we want every child to enjoy being active and feel that they have a place in our sporting community. We encourage participation from all, celebrate individual progress and achievement, and explicitly teach the importance of fair play, teamwork, respect and good sportsmanship. Through PE and sport, we hope to inspire a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and help every child discover what they are capable of.
