At Ingatestone and Fryerning C of E Junior School, we are proud to be a Dementia Friendly School. Our team of Dementia Friends was established following work with Mark from Dementia UK, helping children to develop a greater understanding of dementia and how they can support those living with the condition.
Our Dementia Friends wear special lanyards to show their role within the school community. They are always ready to offer a warm welcome to visitors, helping them navigate our school grounds and ensuring everyone feels comfortable, valued and included. We encourage visitors to approach our Dementia Friends if they need any assistance during their visit.
The group actively promotes awareness and understanding of dementia through fundraising events, awareness campaigns and community involvement. A particular highlight has been visiting residents at a local retirement home, where pupils have enjoyed spending time playing games, chatting and building meaningful connections across generations.
Through their work, our Dementia Friends embody our school vision and values by demonstrating compassion, service and respect for others. They show that even small acts of kindness can have a significant impact, helping to create a community where everyone feels welcomed, supported and cared for.
