  • Class Germany

Class Germany have made a fantastic start to the new school year. They have settled into their new routines amazingly and have shown a positive attitude towards their learning. It has been lovely to see them becoming increasingly confident and independent as they get used to the expectations of the classroom. They are keen to earn House Points and crystals to earn a class reward!

They have also been learning about the physical geography of Germany. The children enjoyed using atlases to locate Germany within Europe and identify its neighbouring countries, major cities, rivers and mountain ranges. We have explored Germany’s varied climate and famous landmarks and have enjoyed locating these on maps and learning interesting facts about them. They have been enthusiastic geographers and have developed their map-reading and geographical vocabulary skills along the way! The German authors – the Brothers Grimm have also been inspirational in writing about the Frog Prince, and we are enjoying reading more from this historic set of traditional tales.

As part of our learning about Germany, the children have also discovered its national flower, the cornflower. They have learnt interesting facts about this beautiful blue flower, including where it grows and why it is significant to Germany, especially as it is used to make tea and dye clothes! The children enjoyed observing pictures of cornflowers and discussing their colour, shape and appearance and then creating their own flower! We are looking forward to learning more about Germany and working as a team as we prepare for our Harvest festival church service.
