Maths

We are committed to developing confident, resilient and enthusiastic mathematicians who have a secure understanding of mathematical concepts and the skills to apply their knowledge in a range of contexts.

Throughout the school, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme, which provides a clear, structured progression of learning and ensures that key mathematical knowledge and skills are revisited and developed as children move through the school. We supplement the White Rose materials with a range of additional textbooks and resources to provide challenge, consolidation and opportunities to deepen understanding.

We also make full use of Maths Whizz, an online maths tutor tailored to each individual child. Maths Whizz is used both in school and at home to support children’s learning, strengthen their understanding and identify any gaps in knowledge that may need further attention. This personalised approach helps us to ensure that every child is supported and challenged according to their individual needs.

In the Upper School, maths homework is set alongside Maths Whizz to consolidate and reinforce the learning taking place in school. We value the partnership between school and home and encourage children to practise their mathematical skills regularly, building confidence and developing a positive attitude towards maths.

Our aim is for every child to leave our school with a strong mathematical foundation, a willingness to tackle challenges and the confidence to use mathematics in everyday life and beyond.

We are continually aiming to raise the standards of achievement of all children. This has been developed through our involvement with the Essex and Herts Matrix Maths Hub. In addition to this, we have been involved with the England – China Teacher Exchange Programme. Our Head of School visited Shanghai to gain an understanding of the teaching methods for maths which could be used and adapted in the English system.
