Spirituality

At Ingatestone and Fryerning C of E Junior School, we believe that spirituality is an important part of every child's development. We encourage children to pause, reflect and wonder about themselves, others, the world around them and their place within it. Through moments of stillness, discussion and reflection, we help children develop a deeper understanding of who they are and how they relate to others and God's world.

To support this journey, we use the language and concepts of Windows, Mirrors and Doors:

  • Windows help us look out and encounter awe, wonder and beauty in the world around us.
  • Mirrors encourage us to look within, reflecting on our thoughts, feelings, values and experiences.
  • Doors inspire us to respond, make a difference and take action in the world around us.

Spiritual development takes place throughout the school day and across all areas of learning. We actively encourage children and families to share photographs and experiences from home that have made them "stop and stare" or feel a sense of awe and wonder. These might include a beautiful sunset, an interesting pattern in nature, a special family moment, an act of kindness or something that has inspired a question about the world. By sharing these experiences, children learn to appreciate the richness of life, see things from different perspectives and recognise the extraordinary in the ordinary. (Please keep emailing these in!)

Through our Christian vision and values, we aim to support children in making sense of themselves and the world around them, helping them to grow as thoughtful, reflective and compassionate individuals who are ready to engage positively with the wider world.
