Our music curriculum is carefully designed to inspire a lifelong love of music and provide children with meaningful opportunities to listen, sing, perform, create and develop their musical skills. Using the National Curriculum as a framework, we deliver engaging and purposeful music learning that builds confidence, creativity and musical understanding. We aim to ensure that every child, regardless of ability or experience, has the opportunity to experience success and enjoyment through music.

Music is an important part of school life. Children sing regularly during worship and take part in a weekly Songtime assembly, providing opportunities to learn and enjoy a wide range of songs. We also welcome inspirational visiting musicians and students to perform for our children, broadening their musical experiences and introducing them to a variety of instruments, styles and performers. Children are encouraged to share their own musical talents and achievements by performing in assemblies and other school events.

In class, a variety of teaching approaches are used, including whole-class singing and musical activities, group and individual work, practical music-making, listening and responding, composing and performing. Lessons are designed to be purposeful, relevant and stimulating, enabling pupils to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence. Through regular opportunities to perform and participate, children develop not only their musical ability but also their self-esteem, teamwork, creativity and appreciation of music.
